Format of Program

The AOS degree program has been designed so students can continue in their ministries even as they undertake their studies. There are 3 terms per year. A term is divided into a Residential Session of 5 weeks followed by a Field Session of 12 weeks, for a total term length of 17 weeks. The Residential Session is on the AOS campus in Jinja. The Field Session takes place back in the student's field of ministry.

Students are assigned to different groups that rotate on and off the AOS campus. When one group has finished their Residential Session, another group arrives on campus. After they have finished, yet another group comes. Then the rotation begins again.

Residential Session

During each 5-week session of residential studies on campus, students normally take 7 credits, which is usually 3 courses. Lectures and examinations are completed during this time, but a portion of the course work carries over into the Field Session as described next.

Field Session

Following the Residential Session of the term, students leave campus and return to their various places of ministry. This is the second portion of the term. The session of field studies lasts for 12 weeks. During this time students are required to do the following:

This is a time for implementation and research. Students complete projects and assignments for the courses that they just took on campus. This requires a substantial amount of work about 12-14 hours per credit. If possible, projects and assignments for the courses are designed to help the student in his ministry. This work must be submitted upon returning to campus to begin the next term.

Students also take a course (3 credits) of independent study with Global University. Materials for these courses include a textbook plus a study guide and student pack designed especially for independent study. Students sit for the final exam upon returning to campus for their next term.

Length of Program

AOS offers both 3-year and 4-year degrees.

  •

The 3-year Bachelor of Arts program takes 10 terms to earn the 96 credits required for graduation. That is 3 years plus a few months.

The 4-year Bachelor of Arts program takes 13 terms to earn the 128 credits required for graduation. That is 4 years plus a few months.
